The issue is that attitudes toward linguistic "rules" have shifted. (Baron, 2009).
Reaction:
I believe the author is trying to tell us that we should gain back control, as teachers, of how our students interact with us. I do not totally agree with her. She has a point about how students should be expected to use proper English when they do assignments, but in my opinion the students should be allowed to speak freely when having in class discussions and be able to communicate how they see they can easily get their point across in discussions. I believe we should stop demanding such control in school and allow more freedom of expression, including language. However, the students should know what is appropriate and what is not appropriate.

I believe this is what we are going towards and it happens throughout history so it is not that big of a deal.
First of all I like your comic (picture) I found it kind of funny. But I agree with everything you said about students being able to speak freely. I don't see how this will effect students be told how they should talk and they will know when it's appropriate and when it's not.
ReplyDeletehahaha :) I liked ur comic too !!
ReplyDeleteI believe students should have more freedom of speak also but to an extent. I believe if you give some of them a little bit they would take advantage of it and would express themselves in an inappropriate way.
But other than that i agree with freedom of speak more and more everyday !
I totally agree with what you said, but I also have seen current examples that students totally just inherently learn when to turn off the text lingo. I really agree with the more incorporation of technology the more students will be able to be create and express their emotions, interests, and ideas to contribute with the rest of the class instead of just following along in a book.
